Top 10 Suggestions (4)

Hi there! Check out the Top 10 Monday book suggestions! Tell me what do you think about the suggestions.

1. Wither –

Lauren DeStefano

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1341532430l/8525590.jpg By age sixteen, Rhine
Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for
this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has
left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan
of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the
human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty
have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as
polygamous brides to bear more children. When Rhine is kidnapped and
sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband,
Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to
hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of
wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it
possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine
quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is
what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding
the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister
wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is
desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive.
Will Rhine be able to escape–before her time runs out?

Together
with one of Linden’s servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just
before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral
into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

2. Mercy – Rebecca Lim

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1297927186l/8373527.jpgAn electric combination of angels, mystery and romance, MERCY is the first book in a major new paranormal series.

There’s
something very wrong with me. I can’t remember who I am or how old I
am, or even how I got here. All I know is that when I wake up, I could
be any one. It is always this way. There’s nothing I can keep with me
that will stay. It’s made me adaptable. I must always re-establish ties.
I must tread carefully or give myself away. I must survive.

Mercy
doesn’t realise it yet, but as she journeys into the darkest places of
the human soul, she discovers that she is one of the celestial host
exiled with fallen angel, Lucifer. Now she must atone for taking his
side. To find her own way back to heaven, Mercy must help a series of
humans in crisis and keep the unwary from getting caught up in the games
that angels play. Ultimately she must choose between her immortal
companion, Lucifer, and a human boy who risks everything for her love.

3. The Shifter – Janice Hardy

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320382572l/6316125.jpgNya is an orphan
struggling for survival in a city crippled by war. She is also a
Taker—with her touch, she can heal injuries, pulling pain from another
person into her own body. But unlike her sister, Tali, and the other
Takers who become Healers’ League apprentices, Nya’s skill is flawed:
She can’t push that pain into pynvium, the enchanted metal used to store
it. All she can do is shift it into another person, a dangerous skill
that she must keep hidden from forces occupying her city. If discovered,
she’d be used as a human weapon against her own people.

Rumors
of another war make Nya’s life harder, forcing her to take desperate
risks just to find work and food. She pushes her luck too far and
exposes her secret to a pain merchant eager to use her shifting ability
for his own sinister purposes. At first Nya refuses, but when Tali and
other League Healers mysteriously disappear, she’s faced with some
difficult choices. As her father used to say, principles are a bargain
at any price; but how many will Nya have to sell to get Tali back alive?

4. The Fault On Our Stars – John Green

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327880382l/11870085.jpgDiagnosed with Stage IV
thyroid cancer at 13, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical
miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs… for now.

Two years
post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too;
post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she
could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered
to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant
chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer
kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to
her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected
destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how
sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that
everyone leaves behind.

5. Shiver – Maggie Stiefvater

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328839272l/6068551.jpgFor years, Grace has
watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed
wolf–her wolf–is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without.
Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the
protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In
summer, a few precious months of being human . . . until the cold makes
him shift back again. Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose
familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as
winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human–or risk losing himself, and
Grace, forever.

6. Wings – Aprilynne Pike

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1327983077l/5056084.jpgLaurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful–too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In
this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger,
everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

7. Graceling – Kristin Cashore

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1331548394l/3236307.jpgHis eyes, Katsa had
never seen such eyes. One was silver, and the other, gold. They glowed
in his sun-darkened face, uneven, and strange. She was surprised that
they hadn’t shone in the darkness of their first meeting. They didn’t
seem human….

Then he raised his eyebrows a hair, and his mouth
shifted into the hint of a smirk. He nodded at her, just barely, and it
released her from her spell.

Cocky, she thought. Cocky and
arrogant, this one, and that was all there was to make of him. Whatever
game he was playing, if he expected her to join him he would be
disappointed.

In a world where people born with an
extreme skill – called a Grace – are feared and exploited, Katsa carries
the burden of the skill even she despises: the Grace of
killing. She lives under the command of her uncle Randa, King of the
Middluns, and is expected to execute his dirty work, punishing and
torturing anyone who displeases him.

When she first meets Prince Po, who is Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.

She never expects to become Po’s friend.

She
never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace – or about a
terrible secret that lies hidden far away…a secret that could destroy
all seven kingdoms with words alone.

8. Unearthly –

Cynthia Hand

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1324782984l/7488244.jpgIn the beginning, there’s a boy standing in the trees . . . .
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she’s part angel. Having angel
blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and
faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to
her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn’t easy.
Her
visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a
new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be
the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place
and out of place at the same time. Because there’s another guy, Tucker,
who appeals to Clara’s less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find
her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen
dangers and choices she never thought she’d have to make between honesty
and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision
finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Unearthly is a moving tale of love and fate, and the struggle between following the rules and following your heart.

9. The Giver – Lois Lowry

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1342493368l/3636.jpgJonas’s world is
perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain.
There are no choices. Every pe
rson is assigned a role in the Community.
When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training
from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and
pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There
is no turning back.

10. Star Crossed – Elizabeth C. Bunce

Digger
thrives as a spy and sneak-thief among the feuding religious factions
of Gerse, dodging the Greenmen who have banned all magic. But when a
routine job goes horribly wrong and her partner and lover Tegen is
killed, she has to get out of the city, fast, and hides herself in a
merry group of nobles to do so.

Accepted as a lady’s maid to shy
young Merista Nemair, Digger finds new peace and friendship at the
Nemair stronghold–as well as plenty of jewels for the taking.

But
after the devious Lord Daul catches her in the act of thievery, he
blackmails her into becoming his personal spy in the castle, and Digger
soon realizes that her noble hosts aren’t as apolitical as she
thought… that indeed, she may be at the heart of a magical rebellion.
